This week’s PBS Feature Album is Sun Sessions by blues royalty Checkerboard Lounge the band.

In 2019 – nearly 30 years since their first gig – the band found themselves recording in the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee.

Still located at 706 Union Avenue, Sun is the very room in which maverick visionary Sam Phillips recorded not only Elvis Presley for the first time, but also the likes of Howlin' Wolf, Ike Turner, BB King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison and countless other blues, rock and country artists in the '50s.

Sun Sessions is the product of Checkerboard Lounge's session in this great cradle of American music, and it sees the band rising to the occasion, laying down these 12 tracks across a 5-hour late night session.

Sun Sessions is out now via Cheersquad.

Tune in to PBS all this week to hear tracks from the album, and PBS Members have the chance to win a copy of the record via Tuesday’s e-newsletter. Not a member? Join now!
