Mark your diaries! The annual PBS 106.7FM Open Day returns on Saturday 17 October, from 2pm to 5pm at Collingwood Yards.
See live radio in action as PBS volunteers and announcers open the doors to the engine room of PBS. Come and take a studio tour, grab a snap with the iconic Easey Street doors, or even jump behind the mic in our sting booth!
Announcers in the house include:
Penny from Passing Notes, the much-loved DJ known for her hypnotic, left-field ambient, techno and progressive electronic music sets.
Helen Jennings OAM has hosted Roots of Rhythm since 1987. A fan favourite, she presents a rich blend of blues, roots and jazz, spanning classic tracks and contemporary releases, with a strong focus on new Australian music, local and international interviews, live-to-air performances, music news, and a weekly gig guide.
Lyndelle Wilkinson, widely popular and adored host of The Afterglow, specialising in soul, r&b, funk, disco, electro, jazzy sounds, indie and hip hop, with special guest Lady Love Potion.
Matt McFetridge of Twistin' Fever, bringing his collection of 45s and specialising in the wildest '50s and '60s rhythm and blues, rockabilly, exotica, doo-wop, oddballs and shakers.
Kristen Solury of Bleeding Black Hearts Revue, who features darkwave, goth rock, synth-pop, EBM/industrial and post-punk from the 1970s to today, sourced from around the world. Incidentally she has a high number of feline members.
Matt Schenkel, host of Game Jams, who is sure to take us on a sonic side quest to the outer edges of video game music.
Michael Mulholland, host of Junkyard and the walking, talking encyclopaedia of Australian post-punk.
Worm, the newest announcer on the PBS grid and host of Good Heavens!, the program that explores the musical underground from goth to grindcore, harsh noise to hardcore punk, breakcore and beyond.
Plus, meet some of our Saturday broadcasting stars:
Emma Peel of Switched On fame who presents dusty, obscure and kaleidoscopic gems from the vinyl vaults of time.
Pradip Sarkar from Tiger Beats Elephant Grooves who spotlights music from the Subcontinent—spanning India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan—boasts a rich cultural history and a vast array of musical traditions shaped by its ethnic, linguistic, and religious diversity.
Purchase merch in person, enjoy free coffee and babycinos, and renew your membership with help from our friendly volunteers. Kids can pick up PBS colouring sheets too.
And plan to extend your stay! From 2pm to 9pm on 17 October, Stay Soft Market will be taking place in the Collingwood Yards courtyard, soundtracked by PBS DJs. Browse stalls selling everything from handmade gifts to delicious food, and grab a drink while you're there.
