Melbourne/Naarm's much‑loved Reclink Community Cup will return to Victoria Park, Abbotsford, on Sunday 14 June, bringing together Australian music talent, grassroots AFL and thousands of supporters to raise vital funds for people experiencing homelessness, mental ill‑health and social isolation.
Now in its 33rd year, the annual charity match sees the Megahertz (comprising hosts from Triple R 102.7FM & PBS 106.7FM) and the Rockdogs (featuring some of Naarm's best musicians), together with a line-up of some of the city's hottest bands.
The event will run from 11:00am to 7:00pm, with the football match commencing shortly after 2:00pm, following an opening ceremony. The presentation of the Community Cup and player medals will take place in the early evening.
The Community Cup is Reclink Australia’s largest annual fundraiser, raising approximately $200,000 each year to support the organisation’s nationwide sport, recreation and arts programs. These programs aim to improve physical health, mental wellbeing and social connection for people facing significant disadvantage.
Reclink Australia CEO Dave Wells said the event continues to demonstrate the important role sport and community events play in addressing social exclusion.
“Seeing the music community come together is a reminder that everyone deserves a team to belong to, and the opportunity to participate. Sport can do more than provide enjoyment. It can change lives. The result: social inclusion, and improved mental and physical health for those needing it most. We want Australians to see sport and recreation as an essential service for community wellbeing, one that builds connection, belonging and healthier communities for those who need it most,” he said.
North Melbourne AFL forward and Reclink Ambassador Nick Larkey said the event’s longevity speaks to its impact. “Sport brings people together in a way few things can. The Community Cup shows how combining sport and community can make a real difference to people’s lives.”
The 2026 event will again feature a strong live music program, with performers spanning rock, indie and soul genres, alongside appearances from well‑known figures across Melbourne’s music and media communities,” he said.
Celebrating punk spirit and community change:
The 2026 Cup also marks 50 years since The Saints released (I’m) Stranded — a defining moment in Australian music history. Organisers say the anniversary underscores the event’s enduring punk ethos: independence, disruption and community‑led action.
“The Community Cup has always stood for something bigger,” Wells said. “In an increasingly commercial world, it’s a radical but vital idea: sport as an essential service that belongs to everyone.”
