This week’s PBS Feature Album is Music for Iwuda, the debut release from First Nations bassist Davin Ojala AKA Iwuda.

Music for Iwuda was built in two halves: a run of duo compositions recorded live in single takes at Yill Lull Studio in Canberra, through the First Nations residency program Space to Create, and a set of solo sessions at Echidna Studios where Ojala layered and reshaped every bass part himself.

It's an album about searching - for cultural connection and for a way to represent himself musically. It's there in the sound too: a sparse starting point that grows the way understanding does, unevenly and never quite finished. Named for the Anaiwan word for echidna, the project moves through jazz, groove and a handful of other traditions to land somewhere bass-forward and distinctly its own.

Tune in all this week to hear tracks from Music for Iwuda. PBS Members have the chance to win a digital and cassette copy of the album - simply email your name and membership number to   before midnight Sunday August 2.
