This week's PBS Feature Album is High Pass Filter's Nice Coordinated Outfit, a compilation of tracks written and recorded between 1997 and 2005 - a time that Fitzroy was the beating heart of the country’s avant-garde music and culture.

Back then, High Pass Filter were the kings of the local underground. Dark, weird improvisers who aimed for something new each performance. Whilst electric guitars and rock n' roll dominated airwaves and stages, High Pass Filter were pioneering a sonic revolution in the shadows. The band’s indefinable sound saw them sharing lineups with artists from punk luminaries like Fugazi and The Boredoms, to dub heavyweights such as Lee Scratch Perry and The Mad Professor.

The resonance of High Pass Filter’s music today speaks to the deep historic roots of the fertile culture of fringe dwellers persisting and thriving in the city's musical underground. Nice Coordinated Outfit showcases the band’s incredible range from deep minimal dub to bizarre electronica, with elements of shoegaze and experimental noise, across 17 tracks. The album is released on deluxe double 12" vinyl, including studio recordings, a handful of live performances and a number of remixes and edits.

Tune in all this week to hear tracks from Nice Coordinated Outfit, and PBS Members have the chance to win a copy of the album on vinyl via emailing  before midnight Sunday July 30. Please note that winners will need to pick up the record from PBS' Collingwood studios. Not a PBS Member? Join now!
