This week's feature album is a collaborative piece from Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders and The London Symphony Orchestra entitled Promises.

Five years in the making, the album is a swirl of electronic, jazz, and classical music that balances deliberate composition and spontaneous improvisation in equal measure.

The album was recorded at Sargent Studios in Los Angeles, where Sanders lives, in 2019, with an additional socially distanced session at George Martin’s AIR Studio in London in 2020, with strings performed by The London Symphony Orchestra, written and composed by Shepherd. Making the most of the enormous space, the masked players spread out for safety, utilizing more than 100 different microphones to capture Shepherd’s transportive arrangements in a single take.

Promises is out now via Luaka Bop. PBS members can tune in all week for a chance to win a copy of the album. Not a member? Join now!
