This week's Feature Album titled Old Gold is the latest release from Melbourne musician Andrew Wilson, who fans may also know as Andras, A.R.T. Wilson, or as one half of Wilson Tanner.

Old Gold features a collection of fragile, private and deranged songs about parrots, pancakes and gelignite amidst the Victorian Gold Rush of the 1850s. The album is described as a lonely, self-pitying search evoked by faintly medieval folk music.

While the album sounds familiar with what one assumes are gut string guitars, water-logged mandolins, bar room banjos and no-fidelity piano, listeners are in for a surprise. No acoustic instruments were used in the making of this record. Even the environmental sounds were reproduced during a residency at Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS). The reproduction of familiar sounds via inorganic means situates Old Gold in a moonlit, melancholy hole all of its own.

Old Gold is out now via Impatience. Sign up to the PBS enewsletter for a chance to win a copy of the album. Not a PBS member? Join now for your chance to win.
