Over the 2023 Labour Day long weekend, thousands of music lovers descended on Port Fairy for the annual Port Fairy Folk Festival. This year’s event featured a very special concert – The Juke Joint, Live on Stage.  For two hours Matt Frederick presented his long-running PBS blues show to a packed house at the Pyipgil Gundidj stage, and introduced live sets from Early James, Blue Moon Marquee and Fiona Boyes (pictured).

Born in the spring of 2014 on the forgotten end of Brunswick Street in a dimly lit room full of sweat and beer at The Rooks Return, The Rookies started as a quiet set of background jazz for punters while they imbibed their cocktails. This quickly devolved into an uninhibited, drunken dance party reminiscent of a time almost forgotten.
