As music lovers, we're all ready for a return to normality and, a return to live music. In the interim, PBS has decided to bring the live vibe direct from artists' living rooms to yours with Sounds Like Home.

Over the following weeks, Sounds like Home will be highlighting some of our local, diverse and talented musicians from the community. Each session will deliver a brand new intimate recording from an artist you love; delivered immediately from artist to listener.

Tune in to The Afterglow on Wednesday May 13 for the inaugural Sounds Like Home session with Melbourne duo GL.

Born out of a ten-year friendship, GL merges Ella Thompson and Graeme Pogson’s musical inspirations with a timely electronic twist. The result is a thrilling contemporary spin on classic electronic pop.

GL said this about their set:

"We recorded the set at our studio in North Fitzroy on Saturday the 2nd of May, 2020 . The challenge was to make our songs feel live despite the inevitable requirement for overdubbing, seeing as there are only 2 of us in the group (always adhering to social distancing guidelines, of course). We recorded the vocals and drums live along to simple guide tracks, then reworked, stripped-back and re-recorded each song bit by bit around these live vocals and drums, attempting to keep it raw and resisting the temptation to do much editing of the various performances.

"We then mixed the set with our studio partner, Jacky Winter, who provided his excellent analogue mixing skills to further add to the live feeling of the recording. The result is a collection of unique versions of our old material (Hallucinate, Reflect), a cover by one of our favourite artists (Heaven by Tweet), and live arrangements of 2 unreleased tracks from our upcoming album (Clouds, You Read My Mind). "

Sounds Like Home was dreamed up by PBS and is proudly supported by the City of Melbourne COVID-19 Arts Grants.
