In order to maintain the health of our live music culture, Music Victoria, The City of Melbourne, City of Yarra, City of Port Phillip and the students from COLLARTS and RMIT are undertaking a unique project.

In 2012, Music Victoria and its partners conducted a world-first Live Music Census, to gather vital data on Melbourne's live music scene.

The findings - 90,000+ live gigs annually generating $1 Billion + and creating 110,000 full time-equivalent jobs for musicians/DJs, production and venue staff, proved vital in lobbying local and state government to invest in this major sector of our industry.

With Melbourne due to host the International Music Cities Convention in April 2018, and another election next year, it's important that we update that study.

In phase one of this year's project, dozens of student volunteers visited hundreds of Melbourne venues to observe operations on Saturday, 25th November - who was playing, who was working and who was there to see performances.

Phase 2 of the project involves gathering as many responses as possible to the online surveys for musicians, DJs, audience members and venue operators that are hosted on Music Victoria's website.

To complete the survey and have a say about your live music community, head to the link here.

Every person who completes the survey goes in the draw to win double passes to Falls and Meredith Festival! Survey closes February 28.
