Ambrose Akinmusire: Origami Harvest (USA)

Support: Brekky Boy
Sunday 2 June, 7:00pm
at 170 Russell

Hailed as ‘jazz’s most influential bandleader under 40’ (The New York Times), trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire is situated in both the centre and the periphery of jazz. Part of a generation of influential artists – such as Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington and Thundercat – who worked with Kendrick Lamar on his album, To Pimp a Butterfly, Akinmusire is carving out the shape of the future of jazz. MIJF is very excited to present Origami Harvest as an Australian exclusive – a project that pits contemporary chamber music against left-field jazz, hip hop, funk, spoken word and soul to create richly textured soundscapes that record the social climate of our times.
