Members are the lifeblood of PBS.  They keep the wheels turning, the lights on and most importantly the music flowing.  We've been asking a few members to tell us some of their favourite PBS stories, and we thought you might want to hear them!

Carol Quinlan has been a PBS member since 2006, with a strong love of soul and funk she now fills in on shows such as Soul Time and Boss Action and is a Friend for Life member.  Carol is also the co-host of Southside Soul at 2 Brothers Brewery in Moorabbin.

What is your earliest memory of PBS?

After moving here from the UK in 1994 I did some volunteer work, taking people with a disability on outings. We were on our way to The Dandenong Ranges by mini bus. The driver put on the radio . Soul music was playing and I asked him what the station was called. He told me  PBS and this is a show called Soultime. Vince then moved to Wednesday and Pierre started Soul Groove 66 . I have been listening to PBS ever since at home and in the car.

Why did you decide to become a Friend for Life member?

After progressing up the membership ladder to Patron I just decided one year to become a life member of Soultime. I put it on the credit card and paid it off gradually . Vince played some special requests for me which was nice , Stone Love by The Supremes and Am I The Same Girl by Barabra Aklin as a thankyou to me for becoming the then latest friend for life . We have since met and become friends and I sometimes guest on his show. Vince was the one that suggested I do the presenters course and was a great supporter of me starting a night in my local area . Southside Soul has been going for over 6 years . Vince has been a guest DJ plus other PBS DJs have graced the decks at Southside Soul. PBS radio supports local music , that’s what makes this radio station so special.

What is your favourite show and why?

Finding Soultime and PBS was just brilliant . I have also been a long time supporter of Boss Action. Miss Goldie inspired me to become a DJ . She showed me how to cue up records and use the cross fader . My first ever fill in on PBS was on Boss Action . That was such a privilege . I have multiple memberships as DJ Lady Soul- The Afterglow , Soulgroove 66 and Boss Action plus as part of The Soulthside Soul DJs we support Soultime and Bluejuice . I love all these shows and the dedication the presenters bring to their programming, sharing their knowledge and record collections . Sundays is special with the Gospel show ! Plus the Reggae shows ! It is impossible to pick one show on the grid! I just just love PBS and the diverse range of music played . I am so happy to be apart of the PBS Family .
