Girls Rock! Melbourne is primarily a volunteer-run organisation, and relies on the support of our community to provide opportunities for kids from low-income or other disadvantaged backgrounds.

They are currently working to expand their offerings throughout the year with planning underway for a regional rock camp in Castlemaine and a Studio Sessions program where kids can either learn sound engineering or songwriting and create demos!

Girls Rock! Melbourne are hoping to sell enough of their rockin' merchandise to fundraise enough money to sponsor 10 participants ($450 per child) at their next camp in September. Check it out here!

Why Girls Rock! Melbourne?
Girls Rock! Melbourne, Inc. came about in late 2015 after Shannon and Sally both watched "Girls Rock! The Movie" and fell in love with the concept. After spending years playing in a band together, they were all too familiar with being in the only non-male band on lineups, encountering rude and patronising comments, and a general feeling of discomfort from being part of a minority whose skills and knowledge were too often not taken seriously. They wanted to do something to make the Melbourne music scene a more inclusive place, and Girls Rock! Melbourne was the perfect answer.

What is Girls Rock! Melbourne?
Girls Rock! Melbourne is a registered not-for-profit with the goal of addressing gender inequality in the music industry through education and empowerment of female, trans, and gender diverse youth.

They hold events throughout the year, most notably the Girls Rock! Melbourne Camps, which are held twice yearly during January and September school holidays. Over 5 days, female, trans, and gender diverse participants aged 10-17 form bands, receive instrument instruction, attend workshops, watch live performances, and work with a mentor to write an original song with their band. On the weekend following camp, those brand-new songs are debuted at a Showcase Gig at one of Melbourne's legendary music venues. No experience is required, Girls Rock! Melbourne provide the instruments, and offer financial aid as much as they can.
