Bell Shakespeare’s bawdy and anarchic Henry 4 is playing at Arts Centre Melbourne until 30 March. Think fathers and sons. Think London riots and angry young men. Think John Bell in a fat suit!

John directs this new production and stars as Shakespeare's greatest comic creation, Falstaff, lord of misrule, life of the party, corrupter of youth.

This age-old story of a rebellious son and a domineering father is bursting with dramatic tension interspersed with riotous comedy, music and violence set to recapture the boisterous atmosphere of Shakespeare's Globe for a modern audience.

Also, a few of the great reviews we’ve had:

‘John Bell's Falstaff is a glorious, larger-than-life interpretation of one of drama's great characters.’ – The Canberra Times

‘one of the best performances of (John Bell’s) long and distinguished career’ – The Australian

‘fantastic, absorbing and utterly original... 4 ½ stars out of 5’ – Arts Hub

‘...Henry 4 is young, pithy and full of the muck, mire and joy of life.’ – Australian Stage
