Thu 5 Jun 2014 to Fri 6 Jun 2014

This unique double bill brings together two compelling trios from opposite ends of the globe, each charting new directions in jazz.

One of the most distinctive and spellbinding units in Australian improvised music, the ARIA-nominated Alister Spence Trio have gained worldwide recognition for their ingenious compositions and magnetic live interplay. Together they create luminous soundscapes that are dark, lyrical, textured and endlessly surprising.

Brooklyn-based trio Dawn of Midi have set a startling new direction in improvised music that is "close to something totally unprecedented” (Pitchfork).

With members originating from Morocco, Pakistan and India, this Brooklyn-based acoustic trio weaves elements of ambient electronica, dance music and classical minimalism together with dovetailing melodies and extended techniques. Their sophomore album Dysnomia was listed among the “Best Albums of 2013” in The New Yorker, NPR and BBC 3.
