Naarm-based instrumental combo The Seven Ups exist between groove and atmosphere. Expansive guitar and warm synth layers stretch outward, grounded by bass and percussion, with horns shifting between restraint and impact.
Led by multi-instrumentalist Trent Sterling, the group has carved out its own space across six studio albums, developing a sound that balances locked-in rhythm with immersive texture and long-form explorations.
The Seven Ups have just released their new album Flight on French label Nice Guys Records. Across the album's eleven tracks, repetition and feel drive everything forward. A recurring synth presence ties it together, shifting from understated warmth to dense, immersive swells, with horns moving between subtle colour and driving force.
To celebrate the release of the album, The Seven Ups stop by PBS to play a set in Studio 5 Live. Tune in to The Afterglow on Wednesday October 14 from 5pm to hear this exclusive set and a chat with host Lyndelle Wilkinson.
Studio 5 Live is made possible by Carlton Audio Visual and is supported by the Australian Government through Music Australia and Creative Australia, its arts funding and advisory body.
