The Turner Brown Band is a joint musical collaboration between Australian slide guitarist and music producer Dom Turner (of awarded blues act Backsliders fame) and Ohio-based Sacred Steel lap-slide guitarist and singing sensation Nikki D Brown. The result is a merging of Nikki’s southern style US gospel ‘Sacred Steel’ guitar and vocals with Dom’s blues-based sounds forming a dueling slide guitar eclectic and uplifting gospel-blues musical feast.

In late July 2018, Dom and Nikki, with Nikki’s sister Gloria Brown (rhythm guitar and vocals) and cousin Tomika Webb (drums and vocals), came into PBS to record an exquisite session in Studio 5.

Showcasing Nikki D Brown’s powerfully rich, raspy soul-gospel vocal style and Dom Turner’s superb songwriting and guitar technique, this live set originally went to air on The Gospel Show but it’s been such a favourite of Helen Jennings’ that she has played snippets from it on her show on various occasions. On September 30, Helen will play the session in its entirety once again.

Tune in to Roots of Rhythm on September 30 as we rewind back to Turner Brown Band's Studio 5 Live session. Studio 5 Live is made possible by our mates at Mountain Goat.
