Melbourne International Jazz Festival has just announced saxophonist, composer and PBS New Noise and regular fill-in announcer, Flora Carbo as the Take Note program leader for 2022.
Flora is an exciting young artist and emerging leader in Melbourne's jazz landscape – heading up her eponymous trio, performing regularly at festivals and clubs all over Victoria and releasing three albums since 2018.A three-time Freedman Jazz Fellowship nominee and a Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year finalist in the Australian Jazz Bell Awards, Flora is a frequent collaborator with some of the biggest names in Australian jazz.
PBS congratulates Flora on being selected as the MIJF Take Note program leader for 2022.
Flora says of her new role as MIJF's 2022 Take Note leader:
"I am incredibly excited to be selected as the leader of the 2022 Take Note program. I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences and processes with aspiring jazz musicians and I hope to inspire connections with music and empower students to create and develop.
This program will provide an invaluable opportunity for me to focus on new compositional ideas and explore the next stage of my career with support from the Melbourne International Jazz Festival."
Flora will receive a $5,000 cash bursary to support the development of a new work to premiere at the 2022 Melbourne International Jazz Festival. She will also undertake a dedicated Victorian high school tour, leading improvisation workshops and inspiring the next generation of Australian jazz.
