It’s almost that time again! The mighty Triple R 102.7FM / PBS 106.7 FM Megahertz are getting the ball rolling in preparation to secure a back-to-back win against the Rockdogs.

The Cup is undoubtedly one of the most hotly anticipated events on football, music and charity calendars. This year the theme ‘Smells Like Team Spirit’ pays homage to Nirvana’s classic album Nevermind celebrating its 25th anniversary with a cheeky nod to the day’s sport skew. The festivities of the day will include performances by some of the country’s most notable artists with a MEGA line-up.

The mighty Regurgitator will be headlining the off-the-field entertainment along with Ross Wilson, Total Giovanni, The Sugarcanes and Loose Tooth all rocking out. Plus, Rhys Muldoon + Kram (Spiderbait) team up to bring on the rock'n'roll for the kids.

In past years, the likes of PBS' own Cat McGauran (The Breakfast Spread), Maddy Mac (Homebrew) and DJ Manchild (The Breakdown) have joined our friends over at Triple R including Chris Gill (Get Down), Pauly P (Livewire), Joe Brnadic (Astral Glamour) and many other courageous announcers from both stations to don their footy boots for the sake of a good cause. Musical luminaries such as Paul Kelly, Courtney Barnett, Tim Rogers, Tex Perkins and more have also participated either as Rockdogs players, coaches or even water runners.

Reclink Australia supports some of the community’s most vulnerable and isolated people: at risk youth, those experiencing mental illness, people with a disability, the homeless, people tackling alcohol and other drug issues and social and economic hardship. With humble beginnings in 1993, the Melbourne game now attracts more than 10,000 people and raises more than $100,000 for Reclink Australia each year.

In 2016, the game will now be going national with Reclink Australia aiming to create not just family friendly fun with live music and passionately-contested football, but also to raise national awareness and funds for Australia’s most disadvantaged.

Reclink’s CEO John Ballis says:
“For Reclink the Community Cup is a time when the media – particularly the community radio sector – and local musicians band together to help raise much needed funds to enable us to deliver sport, recreation and arts programs that make a huge difference to lives of the neediest in our community; programs that foster self-confidence, fight isolation, develop skills, and establish connections and lasting friendships.”

Last year’s events in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide raised more than $215,000. This year with the inclusion of Brisbane and Hobart, Reclink Australia aims to raise more than $250,000 to better enhance the lives of people experiencing disadvantage around Australia.
