PBS, in association with the Melbourne International Jazz Festival (MIJF), is excited to announce Victorian jazz composer/performer Tilman Robinson as the winner of the PBS Young Elder of Jazz Commission. This is an annual PBS initiative promoting innovation and excellence in jazz composition.
PBS congratulates Tilman who has been awarded $10,000 for the creation and presentation of his new work. His composition will be broadcast on PBS and premiered at the 2014 Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
"I am overjoyed and humbled at having been awarded this commission. I would like to express my gratitude to both PBS and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival for providing me with the opportunity to continue to explore literature and music. I'm extremely excited at the prospect of working with some of my favourite musicians and look forward to premiering this work at next year's Festival," Tilman said.

The aim of the Commission is to provide support for composers at a pivotal point in their career, and to encourage creative flair and distinction in the jazz idiom. The PBS Young Elder of Jazz Commission is an initiative of PBS 106.7, in association with the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, and is generously supported by Mark Newman.
