Since their formation in mid-2012, Perth quintet Mt. Mountain have built a formidable reputation, not just for their masterful songwriting, but as one of the most compelling live bands in Perth – a distinction which has seen them share stages with Australian and international heavyweights alike, including Sleep, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Boris.

Their first full-length album, COSMOS TERROS, was over 18 months in the making. Its release in 2016 caught the attention of fans of doom and psychedelic rock fans nation-wide and received support from various PBS announcers. The band’s menacing, meditative and entrancing energy has been described as ‘Jimi Hendrix with a slower heart rate and a heavier drumbeat’ and has not stopped evolving. It channels the vast expanse of the West Australian landscape into cathartic epics, akin to Earth’s droning homage to the vistas of America’s Pacific Northwest, or Tinariwen’s musical ekphrasis of the Northern Mali desert.

Mt. Mountain’s sound is perfectly fitting for PBS’s Chris Pearson, who arranged for the band to play a Studio 5 Live session on his show Pojama People in 2018. The session is proof that, as captivating as they are on record, Mt. Mountain bring with them an utterly mesmerising live show.

Tune in to experience this fantastic set once again on Pojama People at 10pm on September 9.

Studio 5 Live is brought to you by our friends at Mountain Goat.
