Originally from San Francisco, Mix Master Mike is one of the pioneers of turntablism. Having discovered vinyl thanks to his uncle’s record collection, he decided to buy his first turntable after seeing Herbie Hancock in concert accompanied by DJ Grandmaster DST.
His encounter with the late Adam Yauch, of the Beastie Boys in 1994 proved to be a turning point in his career, which has continued to boom with multiple releases and constant international touring. As well as becoming the Beastie’s resident DJ, MMM has joined up with fellow turntablists Q-Bert and Apollo, provided scratches for Frank Zappa and joined Travis Barker on tour multiple times.
