Soul / alt-country outfit The Meltdown have been crafting their special brand of ‘southern soul from the great southern land’ for nearly a decade. In 2015 they signed with Hopestreet Recordings, and in 2017 put out their acclaimed self-titled debut album.

The band went on hiatus in early 2020 but found themselves returning to writing and rehearsing in-between Melbourne’s lockdowns. Over the course of the last two years, whenever they were allowed to be together in the same room, they’d convene in vocalist Simon Burke's home studio and record what has shaped up to be their forthcoming sophomore album.

In late 2021, the band started playing a string of shows that helped them reconnect with audiences in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Part of this effort saw them also recording a special session on Channel 31’s live music show MUUZOstream, where they shared much loved songs from their debut self-titled album as well as new material from their forthcoming record.

We are delighted to broadcast this session on The Afterglow as part of our next Studio 5 presentation.

Mark May 4 in your calendar and tune in to The Afterglow from 5pm to hear this beautiful set from The Meltdown. PBS Studio 5 Live is proudly presented by Mountain Goat.
