Lantern Ghost Tours
'Old Melbourne Ghost Tour'
Bodysnatchers, opera singers and Jack the Ripper

Lantern Ghost Tours are back for the second year running with their Melbourne Fringe Festival Old Melbourne Ghost Tour. Put your walking shoes on and journey back in time through Melbourne's hidden laneways and haunted locations.

Hear of our most famous ghost, opera singer Federici, who plummeted to death infront of his audience. Learn of body snatchers supplying fresh corpses in the name of medical science and just why there is mounting evidence to suggest that Jack the Ripper himself escaped to Melbourne to continue his killing spree.

Tours depart from the Melbourne Visitor Information Centre, Federation Square. Bookings are essential.

"Creep into the dark recesses of Melbourne alleyways" - City Weekly

Water Torture

On a 40 degree day, two bored inner Melbourne pool lifeguards deal with sexual harassment, ethnic tension, blood in the water and floating turds. The audience is immersed in the simmering tension and maybe, just maybe, a lifeguard might actually get wet. Water Torture is presented by The Millinery, written by Lauren Smith and co-directed and produced by Lauren Bailey.

Space has been created in the script for improvisation that will change each night. The unique
performance space is an old truck loading bay which could easily double as a torture chamber. It has the audience sitting 'in the pool' - without getting wet - watching the action going on around them - creating, literally, an immersive theatrical experience.

The production offers a glimpse of what is really going on behind this seemingly ordinary suburban scene. It is humorous, provocative and highly entertaining.

"The Millinery: a talented bunch of young turks" - Time Out
"The Millinery's ambition is to allow the audience to gaze at its sometimes unlovely reflection" - Peter Green, 3MBS

All War Is Deception

All War is Deception intertwines choreography, philosophy and fantasy, taking the audience into the world of a childs toy-box, where a dancing doll encounters a regiment of toy soldiers. Set to a beautiful and original score, this visual feast of firearms and flamenco is both surreal and poignant. The tenderness and cruelty of love and war are brought to life as the depths of deception are defined.

The theme of deception also carries through much of the dialogue, which explores how and why we choose to deceive each other and ourselves. The story revolves around a dancing doll who encounters a regiment of toy soldiers. Their conversations traverse philosophy, love and culture to the backdrop of the Second World War.

Death Café

Death? Café? Yes, that's right. Tea and mortality! Like it or not, one day you and everyone you know, are going to die. Maybe you have given this some thought, but have you discussed it? Death Café is a chance to share your hopes, concerns and questions over a beverage with a group of strangers.

From its origins in London, the global spread of Death Café reflects a growing trend in holistic approaches to death and dying. The fact our lives are finite need not be seen as a tragedy but essential to the value of life. So come, break bread with the undead...while you can.

Classical Vs Jazz

Catherine Ashley and Michelle Smith, in association with Melbourne Fringe, present
Classical vs. Jazz - The Ultimate Harp Battle. Which is better - classical or jazz?

Watch Smith and Ashley go head-to-head in a world first dueling harp performance where you will step into a world of melody, rhythm and cross genre rivalry.

Michelle Smith is one of the world's very few jazz harpists. Crossing over with Catherine Ashley (an international classical harp performer), they will see if true fusion is possible between such different languages.

As they lock and load their 47 string LED lit harps, the battle can sometimes only be seen through a luminous pair of hands through gossamer strings. This award-nominated performance is a show that cannot be compared to anything else.
