Thu 1 Aug 2019
This Thursday, the 1st of August, come celebrate the world of heavy metal as Screaming Symphony broadcasts live from the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany.

2019 is the 30th anniversary of the world's biggest heavy metal festival which sold out within a record 48 hours. Your hosts, Peter Fundeis and Gary Carson, will take to the global airwaves (10pm-12am AEST / 2pm-4pm CET) and showcase the festival in all its raw glory including the fans, the bands, and the organisers.

The festival, which attracts 85,000+ visitors, is situated 80km north-west of Hamburg around the tiny village of Wacken. This year's highlights includes Sabaton (20th anniversary show), Slayer, Demons & Wizards (their only German festival appearance), Anthrax, Within Temptation, Hammerfall, Opeth, Powerwolf, and Saxon.

The nine stages feature 190+ bands across the four days as well as the Mad Max inspired Wacken village, massive viewing screens, metal merchandise, foods of all persuasions, full metal gaming, a cinema, a post office, a pool, endless fields of camping, and more bars than a gymnasium. This year will be Wacken's biggest yet.

With an attendance that boasts around 90-odd nationalities, Australian metal fans form the largest vanguard outside of Europe.

Come rain, hail, or shine - tune in to our biggest show of the year.

The show will be broadcast simultaneously on Wacken Radio and on PBS 106.7FM and is brought to you by Wacken Open Air, RauteMusik.fm, ICS, and PBS 106.7FM
