This week Roger Taylor discussed Julia DeVille's exhibition Phantsmagoria currently showing at Sophie Gannon Gallery. Fresh from the Adelaide Biennial, DeVille's work explores the 'dark pageantry' of the Victorian era and themes of love and death.

The show runs until October 11 at Sophie Gannon Gallery, 2 Albert St, Richmond.

Another highlight on this week's arts calendar is the Melbourne run of Elbow Room productions' Prehistoric, a blistering punk rock retelling of life behind the banana curtain - Queensland in the Bjelke-Petersen era. Direct from the Brisbane Festival, Prehistoric explores the thrills and lessons of self-expression under a corrupt and intolerant regime.

Presented by Darebin Arts' Speakeasy, Prehistoric is on at Northcote Town Hall, 189 High St, from September 30 to October 5.
