Sun 20 Mar 2011

Food lovers and fun goers from across Melbourne are urged to put aside Sunday 20th March for the annual, the one and only, The Great Lee Street Fete. Arguably the best day of the year for the whole family with an abundance of internationally inspired fabulous foods, day-long live entertainment, market stalls with all but the kitchen sink available and an overdose of fun for the kids dialed up with rides, sideshows, talent quests, toys, animals and fun foods.

Foodies eat to your heart’s content with a range of delectable delights from generously packed middle eastern food wraps, tasty noodles & rice paper rolls, deeply Indian-inspired curries, finger-licking pancakes, to the famous Lee Street traditional aussie BBQ. And of course, continue the Carlton celebration of the bean with a fabulous coffee and a fete simply wouldn’t be a fete without homemade lemonade. Select from a range of fresh homemade cakes and heart-warming jams and pickles and wine buffs either relax or awaken the senses with fine wine, while thigh-slappers enjoy some sturdy boutique beer as the day winds on.

Feed the soul with live music from Who AU who will be capturing the sounds, the sights, and the sheer power of a classic Who show. Boasting hit after hit, they will take you back to Leeds; turn you deaf, dumb, and blind; and give you Quadrophenia..! Plus instrumental jazz, lively folk, deep blues, rhythmic African drumming and more throughout the day. Lee Street Fete has music for the young, the adventurous and music for the colourful. This coupled with an ever-packed kiddie heaven of carnival rides to lucky bottle stalls at Lee Street’s very own sideshow alley, or littlies visit the nursery animals while big kids mix it up and enter the ever-popular talent quest stall with celebrity judge, Ian Curley from Conviction Kitchen. Showbags, hair spray, face painting, fairy floss, giant slide extravaganza means a non-stop fun-guaranteed day!

Equally, bargain hunters can celebrate one man’s trash is another mans treasure sale to what is heart-fully the best-value book sale known in the southern hemisphere. Enjoy pre-loved and new clothes and toys, C2o friends select from an array of earth-cooling plants and crafties go nuts with homemade house brightening items. A must-enter is Lee Street’s spinning wheel and silent auction, packed full of authentic prizes including food hampers, champers, wine, books, fashion, beauty treatment, café and restaurant meal vouchers and more.

So put Sunday 20th March in the diary and get the whole family, Aunts, Uncles, boyfriends, neighbours, cousins and their sons, down to the ‘best day of the year’ at ‘The Great Lee Street Fete’ and celebrate in style from 10am-4pm at Carlton North Primary School. Many years of practice makes the Lee Street Fete an event to be remembered!

About The Lee Street Fete
A Carlton North Primary School essential fund-raising initiative, the Lee Street Fete provides funds that are a significant part of the school’s annual operating budget to run class programs and maintain the grounds and buildings. Family and friends contribute to make the event possible and turn Lee Street into a carnival for one day of the year.
