Naarm indie rye whiskey distillers The Gospel Whiskey presents Chessboxin’ 2 with GZA of Wu-Tang Clan, returning on Thursday, 26 March 2026 at Collingwood Town Hall.
The event brings together speed chess competition and culture in one night, as players compete in a tournament format for their chance to face GZA on stage. DJs will soundtrack the evening with sets from Boogie Beat Suite's Mz Rizk, Colette and more, with a food truck to keep us fed til late.
At the previous Chessboxin’ event, The Age described the experience as a moment where “hip-hop royalty met the quiet intensity of speed chess,” capturing the unique crossover that defines the night.
GZA, often referred to by fans and peers as “The Genius”, has long been recognised for his intellectual approach to lyricism and his deep connection to chess culture. Chessboxin’ 2 continues that intersection of music, strategy and community.
The tournament will run in a 3|2 speed chess format, supervised by Acid Chess Club. Competitors will battle through the rounds for their chance to face GZA on stage. A limited number of Meet & Greet tickets will also be available.
