Right around this time each year, music lovers around Melbourne would still be experiencing the euphoria induced by the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, discussing their favourite shows from the season’s line-up, and looking forward to next year’s program.

The festival was sadly cancelled last year, but this doesn’t mean that we can’t reminisce on it. And we certainly cannot wait for the festival to return, but in the meantime one of the way we can feel euphoric again is by revisiting one of its major highlights from 2019, the inimitable US jazz funk ensemble Ghost-Note.

Founded by Snarky Puppy’s percussionists Robert “Sput” Searight and Nate Werth, centred around the exceptional bass work of Dwayne “MonoNeon” Thomas Jr., and featuring an expansive roster of outstanding musicians, Ghost-Note is a band from the future, playing forward-thinking jazz motifs that are layered up on some pretty gripping grooves. They paid us a visit last year ahead of their MIJF performance and lit up Studio 5 in the most beautifully colourful way. So we thought we’d bring that vibe back to you again. Don’t miss out on this one.

Tune in to Boogie Beat Suite on June 23 for your high dose of future funk. Proudly supported by Mountain Goat.
