Paul Collins got his start playing drums in seminal mid-’70s power pop band The Nerves—remembered today as the group that originally recorded Blondie’s hit “Hanging On The Telephone”—but his most lasting musical endeavour is Paul Collins’ Beat. The group’s 1979 debut, The Beat, is a minor classic among skinny-tie aficionados, and while nothing Collins has put out since has received similar acclaim, he’s kept on making records and touring.
