Sunday Sounds returns on Sunday March 22 with an afternoon of powerful rhythm, community and connection at Kingston City Hall, featuring a live performance from Ausecuma Beats and DJ sets from Subway Sounds' Suzi Hutchings.
Timed to coincide with Cultural Diversity Week, this special edition of Sunday Sounds celebrates music as a meeting place – where stories, cultures and ideas come together through rhythm and sound.
Ausecuma Beats are more than a band; they are a philosophy. Led by master djembe player and fearless bandleader Boubacar Gaye, the nine-strong ensemble brings together musicians from Australia, Senegal, Cuba and Mali. Their name reflects this shared heritage – AU-SE-CU-MA – and their music explores what happens when cultural traditions are transplanted into a contemporary city. With four percussionists at its core, enhanced by guitar, kora and saxophone, Ausecuma Beats deliver a vibrant, visceral and deeply joyful live experience that speaks to unity through diversity.Guiding the musical journey between live sets is DJ Suzi Hutchings from Subway Sounds, spinning a soulful, socially conscious mix of hip hop, electronic, jazz, reggae and dub, with a strong focus on music that speaks to protest, empowerment and community.
With free kids’ activities and a relaxed atmosphere, Sunday Sounds is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon immersed in rhythm, culture and good vibes.
