The Boho Ball started in a derelict church hall with a eclectic group of bands, sideshow circus performers and a whole lot of freaky folk way back in 2007, it’s primary purpose was, and still is, to throw a royal party that celebrates and showcases underground music, sideshow circus and acts as a space for wild ceremony.

Inspired by traditions of vaudeville, baroque, psychedelic happenings and old art school balls of the 70’s. It has been a shifting and uncontrollable event that has toured nationally on a shoestring featuring over 100 performers on some nights across four stages. Produced a series of videos, brought international guests and continued to be an iconic event in Melbourne’s younger art communities.

Remaining a grassroots cost whilst refusing an elitist attitude towards it’s audience which has grown in leaps and bounds since locating from several warehouses and circus tents to The Thornbury Theatre, and now The Royal Melbourne Hotel for it’s final enchantment.

As this 9th September will mark the 9th Bohemian Masquerade Ball and it’s death, artist and designer Sarah Cook has fittingly chosen a Mexican Day Of Dead style decorated skull as the poster she will create for this last and final ball.
