The Antripodean Ensemble is an ever-changing group of some of Australia's finest improvising musicians, whose aim is to explore improvised music from every angle and in every form. They seek to create situations that extend the comfort zones of each musician in order for them to explore new possibilities. Each configuration creates difference, sparks new dialogue and seeks out the collective spirit. The result is a unique music, unrepeatable, contingent and brilliantly alive.

For a special presentation by the Melbourne Jazz Co-operative at The Jazzlab on Sunday May 15, the ensemble included Scott Tinkler (trumpet) acting as curator, with Erkki Veltheim (violin), Scott McConnachie (alto and soprano sax), Ren Walters (guitars) and, from Sydney, Tinkler’s longtime colleague, Simon Barker (drums).

The Melbourne Jazz Co-op recorded the concert for later broadcast on PBS, as part of a continued collaboration in celebration of the Co-op's 40th anniversary this year, as well as the close relationship shared by PBS and the MJC which began during the inaugural 1983 MJC Series, where concerts were recorded by 3PBS-FM and broadcast at the time.

The concert was recorded by Phil Noy with the support of Vorticity Music, and will be featured on Dizzy Atmosphere on Sunday July 3 at 8pm - tune in!
