Travel can inspire in surprising ways: Kurt Vile discovered as much making his first record in three years, the eclectic and electrifying Bottle It In, which he recorded at various studios around the country over two very busy years, during sessions that usually punctuated the ends of long tours or family road trips. Every song, whether it’s a concise and catchy pop composition or a sprawling guitar epic, becomes a journey unto itself, taking unexpected detours, circuitous melodic avenues, or open-highway solos.

Voodoo in the Shadows by Fiona Boyes explores the music of Mississippi and Louisiana, from Hill Country and Delta Blues to Louisiana Swamp Pop. Supported by her long-time Australian band members Tim Neal (Hammond, piano, bass and baritone sax), Mark Grunden (drums and percussion), Fiona is also joined on 4 tracks by award-winning New Orleans musician Johnny Sansone (harmonica and accordion).

Veteran Aussie blues-roots artist Geoff Achison is a household name for many music fans in the more southerly states, a reputation he’s forged through decades of making consistently excellent music. Achison first cut his teeth as the young guitar gun back in Dutch Tilders’ band in the 80’s and has maintained a grueling touring schedule ever since, both as part of his band, The Souldiggers, and as a solo artist in Australia and overseas.
