PBS has been a welcome home to jazz since its inception. With contemporary jazz, swing, Latin, fusion, lounge, free and vocal jazz on offer throughout the week, you’ll find jazz for every taste on PBS.
Recently on PBS, one of Australia’s most revered and respected jazz broadcasters Gerry Koster announced that he’s decided to wind up his long running PBS radio show Dizzy Atmosphere.
Friends and brothers alike, instrumental dance outfit Intermood embrace the raw edge reminiscent of their formative musical experiences on Naarm/Melbourne’s dancefloors. Their debut extended play Casuarina is a warm and psychedelic experience which weaves between instrumental dream odysseys, club ravers and feel-good bops. There are obvious touches of disco, psychedelia and jazz, but there is something ‘other’ to Casuarina.
This week's PBS Feature Album is Nothing, the third album from DARKSIDE and the first that the group – founded by Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington – have completed as a trio with new drummer Tlacael Esparza. Nothing is nine transmissions of negative space, telepathic seance, and spectral improvisation.
This week's PBS Feature Album is NYAA WA by Naarm/Melbourne duo Charlie Needs Braces.
NYAA WA means 'take care' in Charlie's mob’s GuriNgai language, and the songs on the album emphasise the importance of taking care of lands, waters, and wildlife, and the need to keep culture alive, tell stories, and preserve sacred sites from development.
To mark the occasion, PBS programmed a full 24 hours of radio celebrating the incredible women and gender diverse musicians and DJs in our community.
Listen back to hear some of your favourite shows presented by the amazing women and non-binary folk of PBS, including iconic announcers, live performances, special guest presenters and heaps more.
This week's PBS Feature Album is the debut self-titled album by female collective The Cloud Maker.
With this exciting release, the genre-defying group invite listeners on a sonic journey that taps into mystical traditions, transcending boundaries of folk, world and experimental music. Inspired by legendary figures and timeless myths from diverse cultures, The Cloud Maker's music channels a unique blend of enchanting melodies and powerful storytelling.
This March you’ll hear some changes to the PBS program roster as we head into Autumn. Some of your favourite programs move into new slots to better connect with audiences, and to better represent their particular music community. Here’s what to look forward to:
