Every time Interstellar Overdrive is on the radio, there'll be an interesting blend of experimental jazz, rock and electronic music, whether it's newly created from our own shores or beyond, paying homage to pioneers and inventors or uncovering gems that time forgot or were simply missed.

We begin our journey in the era of Bebop and make our way into modal and free jazz, which both expanded outside the vocabulary of Bebop. Make our way into the jam band age of the 1960s and 1970s, where longer pieces and solos became prevalent.

The last couple of decades have seen experimental music change once again with the invention of DIY culture, circuit bending and modifying household electronic appliances to make bizarre sounds and home recording devices to capture these wonderful creations.

We will be hearing from mainstays such as Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, SunnO))), Oren Ambarchi and The Necks. Also obscure acts such as Furchick, Finer Points of Sadism and many, many more.

Interstellar Overdrive will explore artists who buck and shy away from mainstream trends, invent their own unique style and tear through musical boarders.

So, tune in fortnightly on Thursday morning and let Alex take you on an experimental journey.
