Motown with Vince Peach

Motown with Vince Peach

Thursday 8 February 2018

Amy Winehouse has described her musical evolution as moving from Jazz, to Soul, through to Gospel, then Motown and finally Hip-Hop. As part of the exhibition, we present a series of evenings that traverse Amy’s vast musical journey, digging a little deeper into the styles of music that informed her complex writing, composition, melody and voice.

It was only when Amy Winehouse was already an established sensation that she says she got really into Motown girl groups, like The Shangri-La’s. “I love the drama, I love the atmosphere, I love the sound effects.” PBS FM’s very own Motown maven, Vince Peach, whose show Soul Time is hailed as the longest running soul show in the world, on air since 1984, will be spinning tunes from Amy’s record collection (on display in the exhibition), her mixtapes as well as delving into more obscure tracks by some of her favourite artists.

Have a glass of wine, while you immerse yourself in the world of Motown with Vince Peach and guest, DJ Lady Soul, before heading up to the exhibition.

This special one off event is presented by PBS and Thursday nights at the exhibition are brought to you by Jewish Museum of Australia and Hear Them Holler.

Times:
6pm – 7.30pm DJ Vince Peach
7.30pm - 9pm DJ Lady Soul
