Become a PBS Board Director

PBS News
Thu 8 Oct 2026 to Mon 23 Nov 2026

PBS is seeking nominations for three Board Director positions at our 2026 Annual General Meeting, with each position for a two-year term.

PBS 106.7FM is a not-for-profit, non-commercial community music broadcaster, owned and operated by the Progressive Broadcasting Service Cooperative Ltd. As a cooperative, PBS is governed by a volunteer Board elected from and by its shareholder membership.

Board Directors provide governance and strategic oversight, helping guide the long-term sustainability of PBS and ensuring the organisation remains focused on its purpose. Responsibility for the day-to-day management and operations of the station sits with the General Manager, staff and volunteers.

We welcome interest from people with a broad range of skills, experience and backgrounds who care about PBS and would like to contribute to its governance.

Interested in nominating? There is a two-step process

To stand for election to the PBS Board, you must be both a current PBS member and an approved PBS Cooperative Shareholder.

Step 1: Become a PBS Cooperative Shareholder

If you are not already a shareholder, you need to apply to become one before you can nominate for the Board. Contact General Manager Kristen Paterson at to request a shareholder application form. Completed shareholder applications must be received by Monday 26 October 2026 to allow time for them to be considered and approved by the Board.

There is a one-off payment of $50 for five cooperative shares, and you only need to become a shareholder once. PBS shareholding is about participating in the governance of the cooperative, giving shareholders the right to vote at general meetings and stand for election to the Board. The shares are not an investment and do not pay dividends. Your annual PBS membership must also be current at the time of the AGM.

Step 2: Nominate for the PBS Board

In early November, PBS will send shareholders the formal AGM notice and call for Board nominations, including information about how to nominate and the nomination form. The nomination form will also be available on the PBS website AGM page. Once you are an approved shareholder, you can submit a nomination for election to the Board.

Board nominations close at 7pm on Monday 23 November 2026.

The PBS Annual General Meeting will be held at 7pm on Wednesday 25 November 2026 at PBS, Collingwood Yards, where eligible Cooperative Shareholders will vote to elect the three Directors.

What does being a PBS Board Director involve?

PBS Board Directors attend a monthly Board meeting, read Board papers beforehand, take part in an annual planning day and contribute to relevant Board subcommittees. The commitment is approximately 5–10 hours per month, including meetings, preparation and subcommittee work. An understanding of governance, a collaborative approach and a commitment to collective decision-making are important parts of the role. Governance training will be provided to all Directors in early 2027.

Skills and experience

A particular priority for this recruitment is identifying a Director with legal and governance expertise who could take on the role of Board Secretary.

PBS also welcomes candidates with experience across areas including:

• governance and the not-for-profit sector
• legal expertise
• finance, fundraising and philanthropy
• strategy, risk and organisational leadership
• HR, performance and change management
• media policy and regulation
• marketing, communications, brand and audience development
• media sector and industry experience
• information technology
• revenue generation and business development.

An understanding of, or connection to, independent music and community broadcasting or media is also highly valued.

We want the PBS Board to benefit from a broad range of perspectives and experience. We warmly welcome nominations from people of different ages, genders and cultural backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, LGBTQIA+ people and people living with disability.
