David Heard’s posthumous OAM honours a lifetime of extraordinary volunteer service to community radio. It’s also a powerful reminder of what makes PBS what it is — the dedication of volunteers who, week in and week out, bring the station to life.

From keeping PBS on air to making it run smoothly behind the scenes and out at events, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do. We extend a huge thank you to everyone who’s kept PBS going over the summer — it’s been a joy to hear new voices on air alongside our much-loved regular announcers.

If you’ve been thinking about getting involved with PBS in 2026, now’s the time. Volunteer opportunities are opening up, and places in our announcer course are available for those ready to take the next step.

2026 DRIVE LIVE EOIs

We’re seeking volunteers to assist with the safe rollout of Drive Live 2026. This is an all-ages, ticketed event, featuring two live performances broadcast on air each day from Monday to Friday, February 16–20, 5–7pm. The event combines live music with a live radio broadcast, and is part of our celebration of our annnual Performer Drive.

Our goal is to provide a safe, friendly and alcohol-free space where young people can enjoy live music and gain a greater understanding of PBS, the music community and community radio.

We have the following volunteer roles available:
•    Busser and Bins – roles available all week, 4:40pm–7:30pm
•    Refreshments – some roles available, 4:30pm–7:15pm
•    Merch – some roles available, 4:30pm–7:30pm
•    Door – some roles available, 4:20pm–7:20pm
•    Friday Bump Out – Friday February 20, 6:50pm–9:00pm

All PBS volunteers aged 18 and over must supply a current and valid Working With Children Check (free for volunteers). All volunteers must be registered with PBS. New volunteers will be required to attend a New Volunteer Information Session (details can be found in the position description).
To obtain a position description, enquire about shift vacancies or register as a PBS volunteer, please email .

2026 RECEPTION EOIs

The PBS Reception role is a 4-hour weekly commitment, Monday to Friday, from either 10am–2pm or 2pm–6pm. We expect to have Reception vacancies coming up in 2026. Receptionists are the welcoming and friendly face that greets volunteers, guests, and staff. Granting visitor access, answering calls, managing studio bookings, directing people to the relevant staff, replying to emails, uploading playlists, and providing membership support are just some of the tasks involved.

Current vacancies: Wednesday 2pm-6pm fortnightly

If you would like to express your interest in volunteering at the front desk, please email .

2026 PBS ANNOUNCER COURSE EOIs

As you may know, PBS is a specialist music radio station with a vision to amplify under-represented music and support the local music community. If you would like to volunteer as a PBS announcer, feel you’d be a musical fit, have a great show idea that aligns with our strategic direction, and have the time to commit, we encourage you to apply for the PBS Announcer Course. New dates have been posted. If you would like to receive more information, please email .

2026 WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENT EOIs

PBS offers seven dedicated weeks of high school work experience placements (duration 1 week) each year. Students are paired in groups of two and get the chance to learn all about PBS — from developing a program concept and making a demo in our studios, to assisting with the day-to-day operations of the station and more. Work experience hours are Monday to Friday, 11am–2pm. Students interested in applying should email  for details on how to submit an application. Applications will be assessed in March, with a rolling process to follow.
