Ways to Get Involved at PBS in 2026

2026 DRIVE LIVE EOIs

Drive Live is our annual all ages live music series held in Collingwood from 5–7pm, February 16–20. Volunteers help run the event on the door, at the merch table, at the refreshments counter, and for the Friday bump-out. All volunteers are required to have a current Working with Children Check (free for volunteers). If you would like to express your interest in volunteering, please email .

2026 RECEPTION EOIs

The PBS Reception role is a 4-hour weekly commitment, Monday to Friday, from either 10am–2pm or 2pm–6pm. We expect to have Reception vacancies coming up in 2026. Receptionists are the welcoming and friendly face that greets volunteers, guests, and staff. Granting visitor access, answering calls, managing studio bookings, directing people to the relevant staff, replying to emails, uploading playlists, and providing membership support are just some of the tasks involved. If you would like to express your interest in volunteering at the front desk, please email .

2026 PBS ANNOUNCER COURSE EOIs

As you may know, PBS is a specialist music radio station with a vision to amplify under-represented music and support the local music community. If you would like to volunteer as a PBS announcer, feel you’d be a musical fit, have a great show idea that aligns with our strategic direction, and have the time to commit, we encourage you to apply for the PBS Announcer Course. New dates will be announced in late December. If you would like to receive more information, please email .

2026 WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENT EOIs

PBS offers seven dedicated weeks of high school work experience placements (duration 1 week) each year. Students are paired in groups of two and get the chance to learn all about PBS — from developing a program concept and making a demo in our studios, to assisting with the day-to-day operations of the station and more. Work experience hours are Monday to Friday, 11am–2pm. Students interested in applying should email  for details on how to submit an application. Applications will be assessed in March, with a rolling process to follow.

We’ll have more volunteer vacancies coming up, so please check back here between now and December to see what’s happening at PBS.

Recent Happenings at PBS

Phil MacDougall's 45th Anniversary at The Tote

In case you missed it, PBS announcer Phil MacDougall (host of Sunglasses After Dark) recently celebrated 45 years of volunteering at PBS, at The Tote featuring a 10 band line-up and PBS DJs. and BBQ. ABC TV’s 7:30 aired a story to mark the occasion, and Mauro, Amber and Matt captured the celebration in photos. Here are some highlights from a fantastic day honouring a champion of punk and underground music—truly a PBS living legend in the Melbourne music scene.

Thumbs up from Phil MacDougall. It's a full house at his 45th anniversary party at The Tote as Phil tries to squeeze into the front bar.
