by Billy Bragg

Is there anything to stop Billy Bragg? Since his solo recording started in 1983, he has challenged right wing governments, stood up for the working man and, most of all, written some wonderful songs. Whether it's been solo, or working with Wilco or The Blokes, he's challenged the politically conservative listener (not to mention conservative governments) with thought provoking lyrics and standing up for the working class. However, his latest album, Tooth & Nail, tends to focus more on the more personal side of his lyric writing. There's still a few political moments, such as 'There Will Be A Reckoning' but songs such as 'Swallow My Pride' and 'Your Name On My Tongue' take a different tact. The album is produced by musician/producer Joe Henry and he's decided to give Billy a stripped-back sound which matches the personal feel and closeness of the songs. It's a really beautiful album and i think Billy's best in quite a few years.
