Thu 20 Nov 2014

This warehouse pop-up bar is the side project of Sharon Custers (co-director of Shebeen) in collaboration with Melissa Loughnan of Utopian Slumps Gallery. The space will be transformed by acclaimed Australian visual artist Thomas Jeppe as the artist-in-residence. Princes of electronic pop, Safia, will be the headlining music act, off the back of a sold out National tour and heaps of international hype, along with a massive line-up of local DJ talent to keep the party going for 3 days.
Residency is not like other art exhibitions; no art will be for sale and no commissions will be paid. Instead, Residency will give Thomas Jeppe 50% of the profits from the bar. It’s a revolutionary way to support a talented artist, and enjoy great music and drinks at the same time. Residency will be located at 524 Flinders Street in a renovated warehouse. The pop up bar will also mark the launch of a campaign to raise money to open a permanent Residency Bar, where a new artist in residence will be invited to design the space every 3 months, transforming the venue into a completely new bar with each new residency. The artist is then awarded with 50% of profits from the bar over the time of their residency.
