by Iggy & The Stooges

Iggy’s back with The Stooges and reunited with James Williamson on guitar (in place of the dearly missed Ron Asheton who tragically passed away recently) with Scott Asheton on drums and Mike Watt playing bass on the new album, Iggy and The Stooges – ‘Ready To Die’. The last album with the reformed Stooges, ‘The Weirdness’ was a let down, Iggy’s here to make amends, to some extent he does, the opening track, the single Burn is like a statement of intent when it comes blasting out of the stereo.

The album is written by both Iggy and James Williamson, it’s great to hear them reunited here. James Williamson’s guitar work is excellent, as you would expect and Iggy’s voice sounds great also. Songs such as Dirty Deal and Gun, sound like classic Stooges. Apparently ballads were forbidden in the early days of The Stooges, but not on this album with the tracks ‘Unfriendly World’ and ‘Beat That Guy.’ The rest of the album sounds like guys who know how to pump it out and are having a blast in the process. All up, it definitely gets my recommendation and should be listened to not just as a Stooges album, but on its own merits. It’s great to hear Iggy back in a rock environment and full credit to one of the best and longest lasting rock vocalists. Bring on the next record!!!
