by Mustered Courage

Mustered Courage are four piece Melbourne based bluegrass outfit. Live they are a feisty unit and to capture that sound on their new (and second) album “Powerlines”,they brought in producer Jimi Maroudas. He has worked with the likes of The Living End, Kimbra and Pete Murray and with this kind of experience Maroudas was able combine the bands modern outlook with the rich traditions of bluegrass music.

The hard working band spent most of 2012 on the road, appearing at various festivals and touring. Traditionalists are sometime shocked, at first, by the on stage antics of the band. But when they start singing, the punters are won over by a new kind of bluegrass music that both they, the traditionalists, and newcomers alike can enjoy.

The first single was “Cruel Alibis”. A video for it was shot at the Old Geelong Gaol on a hot summers day. The second single is “Standing By Your Side” and it has just been released together with a new video, this time shot in Swanston Street.

Like the Old Crow Medicine Show and the Avett Brothers, Mustered Courage breathe new life into the crusty old bluegrass scene. There is enough going on live and on this new album to keep the purists happy and to draw a whole new audience. Bluegrass used to be a kind of sit down scene, not anymore!
