Noah Slee - Otherland (PBS Feature Record)

Singer, Songwriter & Multi-instrumentalist Noah Slee has delivered a mostly futuristic soul album that fans have been eagerly waiting for since his last EP release. Since hitting the scene Noah captivated fans of soul, RnB and even disco, with his stunning interpretation of Evelyn Champagne King’s Love Came Down.

Difficult to categorise by genre due to his influences and inspirations shaping the album in abundance, Otherland includes collaborations with familiar voices such as Rachel Fraser, Jordan Rakei & Georgia Ann Muldrow. The album is a fantastic journey that I recommend listening to from start to end, favourite tracks change on the daily. This album cements Noah as one of contemporary souls greatest voices.

Various Artists - Rice is Nice Mixtape Vol. 4 (Featured on The Breakfast Spread)

Sydney label Rice is Nice present their fourth round up of underground Australian music. There's plenty here to grab you up front but there's a heap more meaning lurking under the surface. Rice is Nice have always released music with depth and nuance – their nous for finding and connecting with this stuff leaves the pseudo-indies in the dust chasing tepid crossover hits. Mixtape number four expands on this great legacy.

The subtle throb of Moody Beach and Heat Wave offer perfect pop songwriting wrapped in glassy post-punk. Mere Women and Nerve Quakes slowly unfurl visions of isolation. No Sister's "Overpass" captures a band not so much pulling at threads but reshaping song structure at will. Bands on their own musical wavelength but with strong community and collective values that drive their practice.

While the collection is a cohesive whole in itself it also offers glimpses into a bunch of different thriving scenes around Australia. Let this mixtape be another starting point into further musical discovery.

Fittingly, all proceeds from the mixtape will be donated to the National Justice Project – a non-profit organisation that fights for human rights and provides legal support for Australia’s most vulnerable people.
