Join The Long Walk for reconciliation this Saturday June 2 at Federation Square from 2pm to 5.30pm. This will be the 14th Long Walk with founder Michael Long first embarking on a historic trek from his home in Melbourne all the way to Parliament House in 2004. After returning home from yet another Aboriginal funeral, Long decided that something needed to be done about the plight of his people. He took it upon himself to get Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues back on the national agenda and resolved to meet with Prime Minister John Howard to discuss his concerns… even if he had to walk all the way to Canberra to do it.
This year you'll be entertained along the way by some of Australia’s best Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talent including MC Leila Gurruwiwi, The Indigenous Hip Hop Crew, Blackfire, Birdz, Soul Chic, Russell Robertson & Phil Cebrano and the Brolga Boys.
Meet at Federation Square, Melbourne for stalls and performances, before proceeding on a walk to the MCG.
This event is part of Reconciliation Week running May 27 – June 3 this year.
