PBS 106.7FM is proud to announce the third Jamaica Jump-Up, returning with a SOUNDSYSTEM SPECIAL set to shake the foundations of The Gasometer Hotel on Saturday, June 20.

Soundsystem culture was developed during the mid- to late-50s in the ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica, as alternative entertainment for those who couldn't afford the ticket price of the big bands that were popular at the time. As the music and technology evolved, soundsystems – definitely not your run-of-the-mill PA – became the traditional medium for presenting the music to the people.

PBS’ own Stryka D (Break the Chain), just happens to have the biggest soundsystem this side of Kingston in Heartical Hi-Fi, so we’re hauling it in to the Gas for one heavyweight night of rocksteady, early reggae and ska, with fellow residents Jesse I (Babylon Burning) and Mohair Slim (Blue Juice), and guests Ari Roze (Plug Seven Records) and Troublemekka bringing positive vibrations and 30Hz frequencies from 9pm until 3am.

As always, MC Kilmarnock Steve is taking care of formalities for the rocksteady massive. The first two have been huge, so get down to the Gas early to beat the queue.

Jamaica Jump-Up: The Sounds of Young Jamaica
Saturday, June 20 at the Gasometer Hotel
484 Smith St, Collingwood
