Irma Thomas, the unrivalled ‘Soul Queen of New Orleans’ is on her first visit to Australia, celebrating over 50 years as a recording artist. Those years have not been easy... she endured recording contracts where, her recordings were ‘buried’ and mostly went unreleased. Irma’s luck changed and she was finally recognised with a Grammy nomination in 1991; following in 2006 there was Grammy success for Best Contemporary Blues Album for ‘After The Rain’ (as well as a Blues Music Award for Soul-Blues Album Of The Year and many other accolades). She has performed with Stevie Wonder, collaborated with Bluesfest favourites, Galactic and, in 2009, was inducted into the Louisiana Blues Hall of Fame.

Irma is also playing at Bluesfest 2011 on Sunday 24th and Monday 25th of April.
