by Jack On Fire

Originally from Perth, Jack On Fire have been mainstays on the Melbourne Live scene for some time now and doing great things but releases have been few and far between. After releasing Stranger Cain in 2009 and Sermons From The Eastern Seaboard in 2011, a full length release has been a fair time coming but finally it's here and thank god cause it is a beauty! I Am Animal is not quite as dark or country based as earlier releases but it has a little bit of everything. Firstly, there's the contrasting voices of Ben Blakeney and George Hyde which give the album great variety, not to mention the songs themselves. There's the psych rock of the title tune, the Triffids-esque off-beat pop with Take Me Home, the story-telling drama of Suzanne, the sad country balladry of Alberta right through to the extremely catchy Easy Money. It really is an amazing album that deserves lots of attention throughout the music community. One of my faves for the year!!
