Berardi Foran Karlen Hope In My Pocket (PBS feature record)
Kristin Berardi, Sean Foran & Rafael Karlen are 3 of Queensland’s/Australia’s leading creative artists. Each has established themselves nationally & internationally as musicians, composers & bandleaders of contemporary jazz & improvised music. So it’s perhaps not surprising that their first album together is so good. It’s a tremendous blending of their individual skills – Berardi’s voice & gorgeous vocal lines, Foran’s sensuous, melody-driven piano & Karlen’s delicate, though intense saxophone. And it’s so different from anything they’ve each done before.

Just released, their debut album “Hope in My Pocket” features compositions from the trio that explore the writings of men & women touched by Australia’s military history. Together they have composed songs to “explore themes of hope, fear, separation, loss, love, & conditions of war” that have been beautifully interpreted & performed on an album that will surely feature in upcoming awards.

Kurt Vile B'lieve I'm Goin Down (Featured on The Breakfast Spread)
The timing of the release of Kurt Vile's new album is perfect for the Australian spring and summer. It's breezy feel combined with a lazy sunny afternoon will be quite the combination. This is his sixth solo studio album and while there are similarities to his previous albums, he has added some nice touches of extra instrumentation including banjo, piano, lapsteel and even some occasional horns. There are lots of wonderful songs on the album but perhaps the best example of this feel is 'That's Life, Tho'. In a lot of ways, it sums up the album perfectly. This is definitely for fans of laid back summer albums.
