Get Up Morning is broadcast every Sunday morning on PBS, a rock n roll show for lovers of loud guitars and big beats for kids and adults. Expect an hour long, musical journey taking in everything from 50s rhythm and blues, 60s garage-punk, to 90s indie and 21st century gems – a mixed bag of old mate classics and newbie tunes, with a serious bend towards Australian and New Zealand content.

To add to the general frivolity, each week at 8.40am sharp, Get Up Morning resurrects the lost art of radio drama as your gaggle of hosts perform episodic radio plays written by writer, broadcaster, television producer Marieke Hardy (Laid, First Tuesday Book Club). Michael McManus (Guttersnipes) is the producer, Jon Chapple (Mclusky, Shooting At Unarmed Men, Harmony) is the narrator, and some of Melbourne’s most delightful musical identities “act” in them. Each week you also get special insight into a different cast member with an in depth interview about their first steps towards discovering and playing music.

Get Up Morning rounds off each program with a family friendly gig guide for adults and kids to continue their musical journey in the streets of Melbourne town.

Hosts Janelle and Fanta have been loitering around rock dens for some time... Janelle as a venue and festival booker and sometime muso, Fanta as DJ, Digger Crate Fair convenor and drummer for Digger & The Pussycats, Kamakaze Trio, Spencer P Jones & The Escape Committee. Their first union was ten years ago when the Fanta was Janelle’s booking be-atch at The Tote, and they then joined forces to start backyard garage band The Curly Wurlys. Get Up Morning is an extension of their long friendship and shared musical tastes. It’s radio land, so many probably don’t know the other bind- they are both proud rangas.

On air since February of this year, Get Up Morning weekly guests and radio play cast members have included Ally Spazzy (The Spazzys, Ally Oop, Divorced), Paul Stewart (Painters & Dockers) and Jo Roberts (Holocene).

Coming up on Sunday 23rd June: Ash Naylor (Even, Paul Kelly band, general guitarist extraordinaire AND fellow red head!). PLUS episode #8 of the current series of radio plays Dick & Fanny Make The Rock.
